Ranks will be given depending on your characters age and experience on his/her history. Enlisted and NCO ranks can be a starting rank but Officers and ranks further up will be given to particular characters.
As you play you may be promoted depending on your exploits. Ranks do not limit your availability to weapons and armor or powers. They only affect your roleplay experience. For example: Officer may give orders to other players during roleplay. This makes for a deeper roleplay experience and down-right fun!
